Failed medical sees Hatters pull plug on Oztumer deal

The threat of another Danny Spiller scenario was the reason behind Hatters’ decision not to offer Dulwich Hamlet midfielder Erhun Oztumer a deal.

Oztumer, 23, had been heavily tipped to sign for Town during the close season, but failed his medical at Kenilworth Road.

He signed for League One Peterborough on a two year deal this week, but Still confirmed it had been too much of a risk for him to take.

He said: “He failed a medical. He had a problem with his ankle that kept him out towards the end of last season.

“Some clubs might take a chance on it, but having had here the Danny Spiller situation, it was felt that it wasn’t the right way to go and I agree with it.”

Still is now pursuing other targets as he looks to assemble his squad for an assault on League Two next season while the boss is also hopeful of finally sorting out winger Luke Rooney’s future this week.
