Former Bournemouth and Norwich City midfielder Andrew Surman is reportedly training with Luton Town.

The 34-year-old left the Cherries in the summer when his contract expired after spending six years at the Vitality Stadium, where he racked up almost 200 appearances, although only featured nine times last season, including the 4-0 FA Cup win over Town in January.

Surman, who is an ex-England U21 international, started his career with Southampton, playing 146 games for the Saints, moving to Wolves for £1.2m in 2009.

He spent a year at Molineux before switching to Norwich City for £1.5m, helping the Canaries win promotion to the Premier League in 2011 and made over 50 appearances, heading to Bournemouth on loan and then permanently in September 2014.

A tweet from The Athletic reporter Michael Bailey yesterday said: "Andrew Surman currently training with Championship club Luton Town.

"Ex Norwich midfielder is a free agent since his Bournemouth contract expired."

The deadline for Town to add to their four summer additions of Jordan Clark, Tom Lockyer, Rhys Norrington-Davies and James Bree is this Friday and speaking about his search for players recently, Luton boss Nathan Jones said: "It’s all ongoing, it’s a very difficult window in terms of bringing people in.

“We are trying, we know who we want, it's just about trying to get those over the line.

“If we can’t do it, fine, but if we can, we realise it is a very precarious market, Covid is still rife, who knows what is going to happen?

“So it is very, very difficult, we’re being very diligent in our work and we want to get the right ones in."
