Former Hatters favourite Gary McSheffrey has signed for League Two leaders Scunthorpe United until the end of the season after impressing on trial.

The experienced 31-year-old forward was a free agent after his short-term deal with Chesterfield came to an end.

The former Coventry and Birmingham City man scored twice in 12 appearances for the Spireites and netted 10 times in 24 games during two loan spells with the Hatters in 2003-04.

He could make his debut for the Iron in Saturday’s match against AFC Wimbledon.
