Former Luton defender Frankie Musonda has expressed his thanks to the club and supporters after ending his 14-year stay at Kenilworth Road today.

The 22-year-old, who joined as an eight-year old in 2006, was part of the Aarau Masters-winning side as an U11 in 2009, along with former Hatters defender James Justin.

He also captained the U18 team that reached the FA Youth Cup quarter-final in 2015-16 as well as winning an EFL Youth Alliance league and cup double.

Musonda then made his senior debut at Mansfield under current boss Nathan Jones in January 2016, going on to make 14 appearances in total, scoring once in the Checkatrade Trophy win at Gillingham in August of the same year,

On learning that he wasn't going be offered a new deal, writing on Twitter, Musonda said: “After 15 years at the club it's time to say goodbye.

"Because of Luton I have met some of my closest friends, been part of some great teams, visited many different countries and been given my first opportunity to live my childhood dream as a professional footballer, for this I will be forever grateful.

"I'd like to say thank you to all my coaches over the years who have helped me develop into the player and person I am today.

"There's so many people who work at this club right the way through and I couldn't possibly name everyone but I'd like to think you all know who you are and I thank you all for your kindness and selflessness which in this current situation of such uncertainty is what keeps the club going.

"Lastly thank you to all the Luton supporters who especially for academy players like myself have always shown such great love and support.”

Musonda received some glowing tributes from Hatters past and present on social media, as club legend and assistant manager Mick Harford wrote on Twitter: "Well said Frankie, lovely comments.
