Gray snubs Watford to join Luton

REGULAR football and the lure of a potential play-off final at a packed Wembley were enough for livewire striker Andre Gray to turn down interest from higher division teams to sign for Luton, writes Mark Wood.

The 20-year-old striker joined initially on loan on Friday and will complete a £30,000 move from Blue Square Bet North Hinckley United in the summer after spurning reported interest from Championship rivals Watford and League One Scunthorpe United to move to Kenilworth Road.

On his reasons for opting to head to Kenilworth Road rather than try his luck higher up the footballing echelons, Gray said: “There were rumours about other clubs but I knew I would get my chance coming here.

“The club’s absolutely massive, the history it’s got, the surroundings, all of the facilities.

“I know the team we’ve got now, we’ve got all the capabilities to be in League Two.

“So when I sat down and thought about, we are still in the play-offs, still got the chance to play at Wembley and become a League Two team.”
