Luton were always in control against the Heed after surging into a 4-0 lead at the weekend against a Tynesiders team that boasts one of the best away records in the division.

And with a Boxing Day and New Year’s Day double header against play-off hopefuls Barnet punctuated by the visit of high-flying Kidderminster on Saturday, Town have been buoyed by their recent good form which has seem them win their last nine home games and go 15 league games unbeaten.

On-loan Port Vale defender Joe Davis said: “Teams are coming here on a run but it doesn’t faze us because we know how good we are, we know that we can beat any side in this division when we’re on our game.

“And like the gaffer said, the only team that’s going to beat us is ourselves because we know what qualities we’ve got.”

Saturday’s win was the start of five games in 15 days, but Davis was unconcerned by the busy schedule.

“I think we’re a fit bunch, I’ve not seen a fitter group of lads to be fair, it’s not really an issue for us, I don’t see it as an issue anyway,” he said.

“It’s just important that we recover right and do things right over the period now and make sure we’re right for every game that’s coming up.

“We’ll go away now and recover and make sure we’re right for Barnet because that’s going to be a tough game.

“I believe we’ve sold a lot of tickets out there. Like I said tonight, we have to go out there and do it for the fans, but not only for the fans but ourselves as well and if we carry on doing that we will be right up there.”

And he’s hoping to hold on to his shirt over the festive period, adding: “That’s the aim, hopefully I just keep my place next week and take it a game at a time and then just see how things go and hopefully I do enough in each game to keep my spot.”
