Griffiths can’t delay hernia operation anymore

The 29-year-old was back in the side for the 1-0 win at Tranmere Rovers on Monday, but will go under the knife tomorrow in a bid to solve the long-standing problem.

On the frustration at missing out on such a vital part of the campaign, starting with Saturday’s home clash against leaders Burton Albion and then a trip to former club Dagenham & Redbridge on Tuesday, Griffiths said: “It’s extremely aggravating, I’d love to be able to play through it, but the pain’s ridiculous.

“You do what you can for the team as the team comes first, but every training session, trying to struggle through, it’s not doing me any good.

“My operation is Thursday and I’m going to do my best to get back for the team as I want to miss out on as little games as possible.

“But it really needs to be done as it will just get worse and I won’t be able to walk.”

The defender admitted he’s been taking tablets just to get through matches, although can’t keep putting his body on the line as he struggled late on at Prenton Park.

On his recovery period, Griffiths has targeted being fit and available for the final game of the campaign against Stevenage, with anything else beforehand a bonus.
