Summer signing Dan Potts took his place, but when asked whether the former West Ham defender would be given a longer run in the side, Still said: “I actually let Scott go home from the game the other night, he just needed a little bit of time with his family.

“That’s probably okay now, I’ll probably judge it on proper merit now if I’m honest.

“He hasn’t been in the right frame of mind recently. Would he have played? Of course he would have done, but I think it was the right thing to do in giving him a bit of time to have his thinking head on family-wise and not have too much pressure elsewhere.

“But it’s probably about right now that he’ll be back involved, so we’ll probably look at that situation.

“We’ve done a bit of work today and we’ll do some tomorrow, but certainly in the next few days he’ll be back in contention for his place.”

Fellow full back Stephen O’Donnell faces a spell on the sidelines with a hernia operation imminent but there was better news for striker Paul Benson who hasn’t played since August 25.

Still continued: “Steve O’Donnell is going to have an operation, he’s going to go in tomorrow on a hernia.

“Paul Benson has trained today and done everything today but we’ll look at him tomorrow and see how he’s recovered from training.

“He trained Tuesday with no real reaction, trained today a lot harder, a lot more, so we’ll see how he is.

“I’m not unhappy with our front people or our midfield people in terms of what we can create, but Paul is a different type of player, and it’s good to have that option, absolutely.”

Meanwhile, forward Craig Mackail-Smith could be a slight doubt for the weekend as he came off against Leyton Orient on Tuesday as Still added: “Craig has got this nerve problem, it’s affecting his hamstring, and on both occasions, we’ve thought he would be able to do 90 minutes.

“He couldn’t on Tuesday, and he probably felt it a bit too much so we took him off. It’s nothing really, just a nerve as you can come in one day and it’s gone.

“There’s not too much treatment you can do, but it’s a lot lot better and we’ll have a look at it again tomorrow.”
