Griffiths greedy for top spot as Hatters go third

The full-back will only be properly happy once his side reach the summit and there’s a chance that could be the case at 5pm this weekend if results go Luton’s way.

Griffiths said: “We’re in third, but, I don’t know how the fans or other people feel about it, it’s not good enough for me.

“I want top and I want to to stay there. I know that’s difficult to do and doesn’t always happen, but that’s what I’m looking for and the boys are looking for.”

Hatters have put themselves in the position after a stunning run of form that has seen them win their past six matches, and they are now unbeaten in eight games.

They put that record to the test against Northampton Town this weekend and on the sequence, Griffiths said: “Six is not as good as seven is it?

“We need to go out and get another win on Saturday.

“We know they’re a good team, they’re going to be tough, but if we can get a seventh win, we’ll be on an absolute roll and flying high.”

Hat-trick hero Mark Cullen was also not wanting to rest on Luton’s superb recent form either as he said: “It’s really pleasing that we’re on a great run at the minute, but we don’t want that to stop.

“We need to get into training, work hard and come back here on Saturday against Northampton and move further up the table.

With Northampton one of Town’s nearest rivals in the division, there’s every chance of another 9,000 plus crowd in attendance.

Griffiths added: “I’d love to see the ground at capacity, to have afull house here.

“It would be fantastic to look around, see the fans and everyone in high spirits would be a great feeling.”

Cullen echoed those thoughts too and paid tribute to the 7,746 who turned up against Dagenham in midweek.

The striker added: “The fans are right behind us and ever since I’ve been here they’ve been first class, whether we’ve been playing well or playing poorly.

“You take your hats off to them, especially on a cold Tuesday night, with Champions League on telly.

“For them to want to come out and support the lads is really good. To hear the fans get behind us does give us that little push and that little edge.”
