Hatters midfielder Luke Guttridge is determined to make the most of his career after fearing it might have been cut short due to his metatarsal injury.

The 32-year-old suffered a recurrence of the problem which had curtailed his efforts last season after the 1-0 defeat at Burton Albion on November 22.

He missed the next 11 games, but was back on the bench for the 3-2 win over Cambridge on Saturday and on his lay-off, Guttridge said: “I’ve been lucky that I’ve got back to where I am and I’ll certainly be enjoying the rest of my career.

“I’ve been trying to do that for the past couple of years anyway. You know you’ve got a certain shelf life being a footballer.

“I’ve come here to be successful and that’s what I wanted to do. Hopefully we can finish off the job this year and then see where are at the summer.”

Guttridge admitted it had come as a major shock when he learned that he might have to call time on his career as it was something he hadn’t been fully prepared for.
