The Hatters will be desperate to put on a performance against Preston North End in front of their 2,000 supporters at Kenilworth Road this afternoon according to number two Mick Harford.

The club legend was given a fine ovation when supporters were finally allowed back inside the ground last Wednesday night, 1,000 attending the 3-1 win over Norwich City.

With that number now doubled for today's contest against the Lilywhites, Harford said: "I'm absolutely thrilled, I take my hat off to them last week, they were brilliant against Norwich.

"Even though there was only 1,000 in there, they got behind the team and with 2,000 there, seeing Kenilworth Road starting to fill up, it's going to be brilliant.

"We need them, we need them as a club, the team needs them, we need them, I just can't wait to see them all back in there and Kenilworth Road on a Tuesday night, full, it makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up if you think about that.

"So we look forward to that and hopefully we can put on a performance for them."

Town go up against an erratic Preston side this season, who have the joint best away record in the division, with five wins already, but were struggling to reproduce those kinds of performances at Deepdale.

However, they did so against Middlesbrough on Wednesday night under the watchful eye of Harford and boss Nathan Jones, sweeping Neil Warnock's side away 3-0, with leading light Scott Sinclair netting once more, to climb above the Hatters on goal difference.

Luton's assistant added: "Preston was Nathan's first game back when he came back to the football club (In May) and they were a tough ask.

"Callum McManaman got a late goal and they played well on that day and we got a draw out of it, so they're a good group, a good team, good players and really tough opposition.

"Myself and Nathan are heading up there, so we'll get a look at them, it's another tough game in the Championship as always."
