Harris delighted with Wall’s starring role

The former Maidenhead forward has by his own admission struggled with the transition to full time football since signing last month, but gave his most complete performance during the win and was named the sponsor’s man of the match.

Harris said: “I’m absolutely delighted for Alex. He’s a young lad, whose come into the game and at the moment his head’s all over the place.

“He’s come in from part time to full time, his body is saying one thing, his mind’s saying another.

“I’ve seen guys take time to adapt, some take months. He’s come in and done ever so well.

“He’s worked ever so hard. He really, really wanted that goal and getting one early on set him up for the rest of the game.

“I’m absolutely delighted for him and thought his man of the match award was richly deserved.

Wall’s first goal came from virtually on the goal-line after good work by Jake Howells, while his second showed further glimpses of his potential, racing on to Jake Goodman’s long ball and chipping keeper Preston Edwards.

Harris continued: “It was an excellent goal, a very good piece of skill to lift it over the advancing keeper.

“He’s got a fantastic shot on him too. You haven’t seen it, but I think the guys in the (defensive) wall have. When he connects, he connects and once he gets a pre-season under his belt, and he’s fit the way that we want him to be, he’ll be a very, very good player.”

On the performance itself , which was undeniably disjointed considering Hatters made seven changes, Harris added: “With the amount of changes we made, we put Jake Woolley wide left, we lost our shape a little bit second half.

“The pitch wasn’t the best to play good football, but I know Liam Daish (Fleet manager)very well. They came and had a good go second half.

“A good, winning side depends on keeping clean sheets though and hopefully that won’t be the last clean sheet we’ll see.”
