Harris wants Town to hit the ground running

Assistant boss Terry Harris has urged Luton to avoid a first day of the season slip-up like they suffered against Southport 12 months ago.

As they did last summer, Luton enjoyed a good pre-season, before they lost 1-0 at the Sandgrounders on the opening day.

This term, Luton, now back in League Two, go to Carlisle United after similarly good results and Harris said: “You come back on July 1, you work really hard and then you play your pre-season games but there’s a bit of nervousness about the first [league] game.

“You want to get off to a good start and last year we didn’t. Hopefully this year we will.

“We’ll just impress upon the players exactly what happened last year. We didn’t get off to a good start but after that we went on a fantastic run and hopefully it will be the same again this year.”

For the most part, Luton were more than a match against League One teams Colchester and Peterborough in their final two first team pre-season run-outs, despite score draws in each.

Boss John Still fielded a strong starting XI against Posh and it wouldn’t be a surprise to see them line up unchanged on Saturday.
