Hatters aim for rare win in Wales

Luton boss mindful of Wrexham trip

LUTON Town head to Wrexham tonight desperate to improve on their poor recent run of results at the Racecourse Ground, writes Mike Simmonds.

The Hatters have only won once in their last eight visits, and that was when goals from Curtis Davies and Chris Coyne earned them a 2-1 victory back in the 2004-05 season when both sides were in League One.

With only one draw and six defeats from the seven other trips, including a 3-0 reverse last season, it hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for the Town.

Hatters boss Richard Money said: “We haven’t had a good record there and it’s something we’re mindful of.

“If you look at their teamsheet, it’s arguably the most experienced in the division.

“They’re a top-flight club in my view in terms of status and stature.

“Four or five of their starting XI have played Championship football so that’s the challenge that we have, but we’re looking forward to it.”

After Luton took a depleted side to Corby Town in the FA Cup on Saturday, the injury situation appears to have eased, with only Amari Morgan-Smith and Adam Newton definitely out of the trip to Wales and then Altrincham on Saturday.

Money said: “(Zdenek) Kroca is back, (Andy) Drury is back, the only two we have a slight doubt about are Danny Crow and Shane Blackett.

“Danny is taking antibiotics as his groin is swollen, so we need to get that sorted out, but he has trained and we’ll see how he is. Shane Blackett is much closer, and will travel with us over the weekend, but everybody else will be available.”

Midfielder Alex Lawless is also expected to make his debut for the Hatters after joining on loan from York with a view to a permanent move on Monday. Money added: “We have Lawless available for selection.

“It’s another piece in the jigsaw, it’s not the last piece and not the missing piece, but another piece towards where we want to be.

“He meets our profile, he’s very technical, very offensive and give us a bit more cut and thrust in the middle of the pitch.

“He can play in a number of positions which is obviously important for a club like us.”
