Luton haven't made an offer for Swindon Town attacking midfielder Scott Twine according to Town boss Nathan Jones.

Reports surfaced online this week that the 21-year-old, who started out the County Ground, but has been on loan to Chippenham, Waterford previously and then Newport County this season was a player who was interesting a number of Championship sides, with Town rumoured to have gone in with an opening bid.

Twine's loan spell with the League Two Exiles has catapulted into him into thoughts of the second tier sides, netting six goals in 24 matches.

He was then recalled by the Robins ahead of schedule, netting in the 3-2 win at Ipswich, while also playing in the 2-1 defeat to Doncaster last weekend.

Although he was a player Jones knew well, when asked if the Hatters had tested the water with an offer, he said: "Of course we know of him because we have our eye on every league.

"We probably could tell you what certain players have for breakfast but in terms of an offer, no it is not.

"He is someone else’s player so we've got to be very careful about speaking about other players anyway.

"He is a young player we know a lot of him, but we have a lot of young players here and that is why we brought Kal Naismith in to supplement a lot of young players we have.

"Kal is only 28 by the way but we felt that's what we needed.

"Whether it’s needed at this point, a young player for example, is yet to be decided."

With Jones still having just under a fortnight to add to his squad before the transfer window closes, on whether he was looking solely to add experienced pros in a similar mould to Naismith, he added: "No, if something improves us, or is something different then that's when we will open up discussions, that is when decisions have to be made.

"We’re not looking to bring in any more experience, we have good experience in the squad, but we lost Rhys (Norrington-Davies) and we didn’t want to take another loan, so we inquired and tried to get Kal in the summer, but we felt this was the right time to do it.

"We felt we needed a bit of experience for the second half of the season, we needed a bit of Championship experience.

"He’s 28 and in theory, he’s in his prime and the best years of his life so we don’t necessarily need experience because we have good experience but we felt we needed to in that signing, rather than take another young loan that was a relative gamble."
