Luton boss Nathan Jones declared himself a big fan of one of the players given the task of keeping his side out this evening, Leeds United's on-loan Brighton defender Ben White.

The league leaders have the best home defensive record in the Championship, conceding just 13 goals from 19 games, and on a run of four successive clean sheets, not conceding since before lockdown, losing 1-0 to Wigan on February 1.

United have kept 10 shut outs in total at Elland Road this term, with a big part of that the highly-rated White, who at 22, has gained a glowing reputation since signing from the Seagulls in the summer.

He is well known to Jones from the Town chief's time on the south coast, as he was assistant head coach at the Amex when White signed to the academy following his release by Southampton.

White has started all 39 of Leeds' league games this season and Jones said “He’s a wonderful young player. He went to the right club because he was at Newport and doing very well.

“It just shows what a quality player he is.

"To be fair, Brighton have a real depth of centre halves since I was there, in terms of Lewis Dunk was coming through, Matty Upson, people like Gordon Greer, and people coming through like Adam El-Abd, who have all gone on to have careers.

“Now Ben and they've bought a few, (Adam) Webster, Dan Burn and (Shane) Duffy, but there was so much competition there, so it was the right thing to go out.

“Leeds are as good a place as any for a young player to go out and learn their trade and learn different things.

"He’ll be a better player for it and I’d be very surprised if he goes out after this season."
