Hatters boss delighted with a point at City

With both sides at the top of the form table going into the game, Luton saw their run of seven straight wins ended by the 1-1 draw, but did make it 10 games without defeat in the process.

Still said: “I’m delighted to have got something from the game. We knew this was going to be a tough one, they’ve beaten Bury here, beaten Wycombe here.

“We didn’t want to be too expansive, we wanted to counter attack and first half although we scored, I didn’t think we were great.

“Second half we went with two up front, matched up on a diamond, which we don’t usually play, so it’s not that familiar to us, but we were better.

“Counter-attacking I think we should have got something out of that, but we didn’t.

“It was a little bit of cat and mouse between both teams, and I think both teams would say they were happy to get a point.”

Town were leading 1-0 for long periods thanks to Scott Griffiths’ early goal and although Exeter enjoyed plenty of possession, Still felt his side’s work in training paid off as they kept their hosts at arms’ length for most of the game.

He added: “I think both teams did well on their homework, we knew if we could defend the box well, we could break from it really well and second half we did.

“It was really, really important that we didn’t go flying into the ball, let them get into our box and we worked so hard in the week on being right around our box and breaking quick.

“We knew how they would try and play, switch the play and try to get the ball down the sides, but they had two decent opportunities to score, the rest was long range stuff.

“So I was quite pleased with the defending side of our game and quite pleased with how we broke in the second half, but we needed another goal to kill the game off.”
