Hatters boss Nathan Jones declared himself more than happy with his side’s haul of five points from their opening three games since the Championship resumed.

Town have had to do it the hard way as well, opening up at home to Preston, who were sixth at the time, before heading to play-off chasing Swansea and then table-toppers Leeds United.

Not many gave them too much hope of gaining ground in the fight to stay up, but Tuesday night's excellent 1-1 draw at Elland Road, saw the Hatters unbeaten in all three, taking five points after beating Swansea and drawing with Preston.

It means Jones' side are now three points from safety, after Huddersfield eased to a 3-0 win at Birmingham City to move out of the bottom three themselves, as the Luton chief said: "Some might not be happy with five, but Preston at home, a top six side, Swansea are going for promotion, away, and Leeds United, the best side in the league, we’ll take that.

"If someone offered me that, I would have taken it.

"I’d have loved six, loved seven, even nine, but realistically five’s a wonderful, wonderful haul for us.

"Now the games come thick and fast, very difficult games and massive games that we’ve got to take points from.

"Five points is a great haul against three promotion chasing sides."

Jones had set his side a points tally from the three matches, but when asked if they had exceeded it, continued: "We'll keep that in-house.

"To win an away game and to get two points from the others is a real good haul, we have to be realistic and that’s a good platform."

Attacker Harry Cornick, whose wonderful strike led to Town picking up a positive result at Leeds since 1988, having lost their last five trips, did reveal that the result ensured they had kept up with their demands.

He added: "We had a target from our first three games and we’ve done well because we’ve hit our target, so we need to kick on now.

"We’ve got six games left, no game in the Championship is easy, we know that, and we’ve got to take it game by game now as they’re coming thick and fast.

"We've got to pick up as many points as we can, a point tonight is a great point, we go into Saturday and we need three points."
