Hatters boss says there are plenty of contingencies in place if star midfielder does leave the club

BULLISH Luton Town boss Richard Money is refusing to accept defeat as he bids to hold on to star midfielder Andy Drury, writes Mark Wood.

The 27-year-old summer signing from Stevenage admitted he had probably played his last game for the Hatters in Tuesday night’s 1-0 win over Grimsby.

But Money said: “He has played his part in winning three points and that’s all Luton fans need to know.

“He said it may be his last game, but that doesn’t mean it is.

“No bid has been accepted. Nothing’s happening at the minute.”

On the likelihood of him staying, Money continued: “Let’s put it this way. This time next week we will have (Amari) Morgan-Smith back.

“There’s a lot of posturing and not just around Andy Drury. I will be delighted when this window closes. What I will say is we already have targets and people ready to come in.

“I would argue we have already done our replacing and there will be more if we have to. We will replace what we have to replace.

“I think the one thing it says is we are doing a pretty good job in recruiting good players and people from higher leagues are watching our players and why wouldn’t you? I just hope we can keep enough of them that there are not too many new faces on the pitch.”

Money was looking forward to having a rare Saturday off this week and being able to take stock.

He added: “I think it’s extremely important we don’t play this Saturday as we were due to go to Crawley.

“I can’t tell anyone how unsettling this month and the last 10 to 14 days have been. The next time we play is when the window closes and it can’t close quick enough.”
