Elijah Adebayo heads home Luton's third goal at Wycombe on Saturday

Luton boss Nathan Jones was thrilled to see striker Elijah Adebayo score exactly the type of goal he brought him to the club for at Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.

With a few minutes to go and the Hatters leading 2-1, George Moncur sent Harry Cornick away on the right, the winger reaching the byline and delivering a high cross into the area.

It was perfect for Adebayo to go and attack, which what was exactly what he did, rising magnificently above Chairboys defender Jack Grimmer and power his header beyond the dive of David Stockdale for a fourth goal in 12 games since arriving from Walsall on transfer deadline day.

Speaking afterwards about the goal and Adebayo’s efforts at Adams Park, Jones said: “It was the real pleasing goal.,

"They were all pleasing, but we worked so hard on getting people into wide areas, delivering real quality and positions of our front men and that was textbook really, from the session we did Tuesday, so that’s very, very pleasing.

“I thought at times he was really good.

"First half we didn’t quite get enough quality into him, but he’s a threat, he’s a real, real threat, and that’s the type of goal we brought him here for, as we haven't had someone like that.

“We’ve had fantastic goalscorers in terms of Collo (James Collins) and Danny Hylton, Cornick has and Elliot Lee is really clever in terms of what they have, but we haven’t had a real big man who can really go and attack stuff.

“We brought Ollie Palmer ironically for that, but he proved he was just a big Jack Marriott that would run channels.

"He did brilliant for us, absolutely brilliant, but we haven’t really had that.

"He’s been excellent and there’s still plenty, plenty more to come.”
