Luton boss Nathan Jones is determined to see midfielder Pelly-Ruddock Mpanzu remain at Kenilworth Road.

The 26-year-old made it seven years since arriving at the club on a permanent basis from West Ham today, brought in by previous manager John Still back on January 28, 2014.

In that time, Mpanzu has seen the club progress from the Conference to the Championship, and with 277 appearances and 19 goals, is now the 28th longest serving player in the club's long and illustrious history.

He is one of a number of the Town squad believed to be out of contract in the summer though and has already been linked with a move elsewhere this window, which has become the norm for the ex-Hammer during recent seasons.

When asked if was hoping to extend his way at the club though, Jones said: “Of course, we've invested a lot of time and energy in Pelly so it would be a shame to see him (leave).

“He's in the final stages of development in being that not so much finished article, but being a real proper, top player.

“There’s a few little things we need to add to his game, he's working at them tirelessly and he's brilliant because he wants to get better, and what he does within the place is phenomenal.

“I can't say anything before my time, but at every level he's played, he's done exactly the same.

“There’s still a lot of work to do to be the finished article, but he’s been wonderful, he’s brilliant and we want to see him develop.

“The majority of the people we signed are good human beings and you want them to do well, Pelly is just one of those.

“I've got a very good relationship with him and his family, he has been a big part of the journey and we want that to continue without a shadow of a doubt.”
