At half time, the Hatters boss had seen his side trailing 2-0 at Kenilworth Road and staring down the barrel at certain defeat following a difficult seven days which started with an awful 3-0 loss at Stoke last weekend and then robbed of two points on Tuesday night when Millwall netted a cruel injury-time equaliser.

However, goals from Kal Naismith and Ryan Tunnicliffe drew the hosts level within 15 minutes of the restart, before with just four minutes left, striker Elijah Adebayo rose at the far post to beat keeper Joe Wildsmith with a downward header and seal a first league home win of the year for the Hatters.

When the ball hit the net, Jones took off towards the tunnel in a show of real emotion, drawing comparisons to Mourinho's delirious antics when masterminding Porto to a Champions League success at Old Trafford in 2004, and when asked about his celebrations afterwards, the boss said: “It’s been a tough week personally for me and my wife.

"I’ve got the most wonderful family that have had the worst week because I’ve had the worst week.

"I’ve had my neighbours wanting to come round and knock on my door and tell me how bad I'm doing, so I’d be interested to see him tonight, really interested to see him tonight.

"But that's the week we’ve had and people are getting carried away with certain stuff and want certain stuff.

"I've had people question why we time wasted (against Millwall), why we didn't put the ball in the box at 86, 87 minutes, so many things were questioned from that game, it was unbelievable, I’ve never seen anything like a reaction to it.

"Now we’ve just answered a couple, so praise the lord and it wasn't anything massively tactically.

"Yes we did change shape and went back to what we knew, but it was people doing the basics, people doing the right things for a 45, 52 minute period.

"That’s what got us the result and I'm so proud of that group, I really am.”
