Luton boss Nathan Jones has warned Watford that they will face a totally different experience when heading to Kenilworth Road for their return Championship fixture next year following their comfortable 4-0 victory at the weekend.

The Hatters had gone into Sunday’s clash at Vicarage Road considered favourites by some to gain victory, having been seven games unbeaten beforehand, with Slaven Bilic’s side losing three from four, beaten 3-0 at Millwall in their previous encounter.

However, 90 minutes and four goals later, Town were leaving Hertfordshire empty-handed and with fairly red faces, having been hammered by their biggest rivals.

It all started when Keinan Davis opened the scoring on just three minutes and got progressively worse from there, Gabe Osho sent off late on to compound the misery of the visiting supporters who had stayed until the bitter end.

Town now have to wait just over five months for a chance to get their revenge, the Hornets heading to Bedfordshire on Saturday, April 1, as Jones said: “We had to start the game well because they are under pressure and I’ve been here, the fans are ready to go here at any point, blaming the owner, blaming whoever it is.

"We had to start well and we gifted then a goal after five minutes as it’s not good defending, we normally defend our box far better than that.

"We settle them down and good players, (Joao) Pedro, (Ismaila) Sarr, they start filling with confidence.

"They wilted in midweek and couldn’t handle it (Millwall), it’s a totally different game going to the Den and playing at home, and it will be a totally different game when they come to Kenilworth Road.

"We know they’re a good side when they want to play, when they turn up and they should be, because they’re ex-Premier League.

"If you count the cost of some of their players, I think they turned down £40m for Sarr, Joao Pedro, Keinan Davis, all the players, so they should be.

"It’s just we didn’t perform as well as we should and if we did then it would have been a far closer game and a better game, but we never gave ourselves a chance.”
