Hatters consider Bury Park academy

The Hatters are looking to create an ‘academy’ in Bury Park by September to encourage more Asian players into the club, writes David Tooley and Mark Wood.

Town director David Blakeman was made a patron of Luton-based ASR Elites FC and made the announcement at the club’s annual presentation at Dallow Learning and Community Centre on Thursday.

Managing director Gary Sweet admitted that Hatters were keen to encourage greater diversity across the club.

He said: “We talk about Bedfordshire being part of our wider community and Luton is part of that.

“We have been consciously looking for players and coaches that may help us accurately reflect that.

“If we find someone of Asian of Polish extraction that would help us match the local mix we would be delighted if they were good enough.”
