The 29-year-old, who has made 33 appearances for Town this season, earning a new contract in the process, might have to see his surgery delayed though.

Boss John Still said: “Scott Griffiths needs to have a hernia done. He’s been playing and getting by, he might still have to play and get by a little bit, but we’ll look at that as we go.”

There was good news for striker Paul Benson and winger Ryan Hall as both could be in contention for Saturday’s trip to Portsmouth.

Still continued: “Paul played in the reserves again (on Tuesday), he got another development game under his belt, so he’s getting closer.

“He’s been out for quite some time, and people forget he was out for some time before that as well, but he is coming back.

“Ryan Hall came in, picked up an injury, got over the injury and then had tonsillitis, he’s back and he’s training, now he needs to pick that up as well.”

That only leaves Pelly Ruddock Mpanzu, Mark Tyler Nathan Doyle and Ricky Miller as absentees as Still added: “Mark is not too far away, but not quite yet.

“Doyle is making progress which is good. Ricky Miller has been out for a little while as he picked up an injury, but Doyle and Pelly are the two main ones at this particular moment.”
