Hatters heading to Wales on tour

Luton Town have announced a pre-season tour of North Wales next month, with three friendlies against Colwyn Bay, The New Saints and Airbus UK Broughton.

Hatters will start against the New Saints on Sunday, July 17, with a 3pm kick-off at the hosts’ Park Hall ground.

Commonly known as TNS, they are a former club of Town boss Gary Brabin, who played for the side between 2002-04 and finished runners-up in the Welsh Premier League this season, just two points behind Bangor City.

Town then take on Airbus UK Broughton on Tuesday, July 19 with a 7.45pm kick-off at the Wingmakers’ Airfield ground.

Airbus finished eighth in the Welsh Premier League last term and have recently appointed former Wrexham player Gareth Owen as manager.

Finally, the Hatters play Colwyn Bay on Thursday, July 21, at Llanelian Road, starting at 7.45pm.

The Seagulls earned promotion to the Blue Square Bet North following a play-off final victory over FC United of Manchester in the Northern Premier League.

Colwyn Bay are managed by former Tranmere defender Dave Challinor and also have former Liverpool youngster Jon Newby in their side.

Hatters defender Shane Blackett said: “The trip to Wales should be interesting, three games up there.

“I’ve never played in North Wales before, but it’s different every year, you just get on with it and do the best you can.”

Meanwhile, youngster JJ O’Donnell is hoping the pre-season line-up will help him to force his way into the reckoning for a first team place come the start of the season.

The 19-year-old wide man said: “It’s a brilliant pre-season to be fair.”
