Hatters hopeful injuries are clearing

TOWN boss Gary Brabin is hopeful that the club’s injury crisis is starting to ease ahead of Fleetwood Town’s visit on Saturday, writes Mike Simmonds.

Luton had a host of first team players missing for their FA Cup victory over Hendon last weekend, but the likes of Amari Morgan-Smith, Keith Keane and Alex Lawless are all back in training.

Speaking to the press this afternoon, Brabin said: “We only rested Mark Tyler and George Pilkington last week.

“There’s been a few back training which is pleasing. They were treading a little gingerly earlier in the week, but we won’t be making any decisions until after todays training session.”

With Lawless, who has been out since the York City defeat over a month ago, when he broke his hand after punching a wall during the half time interval, Brabin said: “He’s stepped it up again and being doing a little bit more contact and we’ll just how he reacts to that.

“All the time he’s improving, the hand’s far from healed, but we’ll see how comfortable he feels with it.

“We’re trying to make things a bit more realistic for him now and he’s joined in with full contact training, so we’ll see how that goes.”

Top scorer Morgan-Smith and Adam Watkins will also come into consideration, too as Brabin said: “He’s (Morgan-Smith) is one of the ones who’s done a bit of light training in the week.

“We’re going to asses him today and see how that group of players are.

“Adam Watkins has dome some light training the last couple of days, but hasn’t done any training for eight or nine days prior to that, so we’ll have to see how he is as well.

“It’s been good to have a clear week, but the players have got to be 100 per cent. I certainly won’t be risking any that aren’t. We’ve got another training session which is vital and certainly one of the things we are looking for is them to be 100 per cent.”

Midfielder James Dance is definitely out after Brabin confirmed he had broken his cheekbone, while defender Freddie Murray will be missing for the foreseeable future after undergoing a knee operation last week and Ed Asafu-Adjaye remains in a protective boot with a hairline fracture in his foot.

Meanwhile, the Town boss is hoping striker Stuart Fleetwood can go on a scoring run after he netted his first goal in eight games during the victory over Hendon.

Brabin added: “Stuart’s come in and I think we all know the ability he’s got.

“I’m sure Stuart will be the first one to admit, he showed glimpses of the sort of player he can be.

“He’s chipped in with a couple of goals and I think he knows he’s going to get better as well and that’s one of things we’re looking forward too because we know Stuart’s got a lot more as well.”
