Hatters keeper a Manchester United winner

TOWN goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington enjoyed a summer of silverware as he was part of the Manchester United side who won the British Airways Football Legends Invitational Tournament in Barbados, writes Mike Simmonds.

The six-a-side tournament featured Arsenal, Blackburn Rovers, Chelsea, Liverpool, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and a PFA All-Star team.

Games were played over 10-minute halves and included the likes of Gianfranco Zola, Alan Shearer, Gus Poyet, Steve McManaman, Jason McAteer, Teddy Sheringham and Paul Merson.

Pilkington was representing the Red Devils, where he began his career, with Andy Cole, David May, Jesper Blomqvist, Quinton Fortune, Dwight Yorke, Lee Martin and Ronny Johnsen making up the squad.

United made it through the group stages by beating Arsenal 10-4, Newcastle 5-2, before losing 5-4 to Chelsea.

Cole netted in the 1-0 semi-final win over Blackburn, before Johnson (2), Blomqvist and May were on target in the 4-1 final victory over Chelsea, in which West Indian cricketing legend Brian Lara replaced Yorke in the second half.
