Hatters linked with a move for experienced Wigan defender
Fox reportedly on Town’s radar
Luton Town are rumoured to be competing with fellow League One side MK Dons to sign Wigan Athletic centre half Morgan Fox before tomorrow’s transfer deadline.
The 32-year-old is a highly experienced defender, having been at Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic in his youth career, eventually coming through with the Addicks, a member of the U21s side which won the Professional Development League 2 title in 2013, under the management of ex-Luton boss Nathan Jones.
He went on to play over 100 times while at the Valley, then joining Sheffield Wednesday in 2017 for fee believed to be around £700,00, racking up another century of appearances for the Owls in his three years at Hillsborough. Fox’s next port of call was Stoke City, heading to the Potters in August 2020 and featuring 78 times, before two years at QPR and then a switch to Wigan in August 2025.

The defender, capped seven times by Wales at U21 level, also named in two senior squads, played 41 times last year and started the first two league matches this term, before being left out of the Latics’ last two matches, including yesterday’s 1-0 loss at AFC Wimbledon.
It is now thought he is interesting Town boss Jack Wilshere, who has seen his side ship 10 goals in just three third tier matches so far this term, as TEAMtalk journalist Graeme Bailey wrote on his official X page: “Luton Town and MK Dons are both looking at a deadline-day move for Wigan Athletic defender Morgan Fox, @TEAMtalk understands. The experienced centre-back was a high-profile signing for Wigan last season, arriving at the Latics under then-manager Ryan Lowe. However, the 32-year-old now looks set to be available before the transfer window closes.
"Fox was left out of Wigan's squad for their disappointing 1-0 defeat to AFC Wimbledon at the weekend, further fuelling uncertainty over his future at the club. TEAMtalk understands that Luton and MK Dons are among a number of clubs preparing moves for Fox as the deadline approaches. Both clubs are assessing their defensive options and see Fox's experience and versatility as potentially valuable for the remainder of the season.”
The rumours surrounding Fox’s departure weren’t denied by Latics boss Steven Caldwell either, as asked why the centre half hadn’t featured against the Dons, told Wigan Today: “No injury, just not selected. There's two days of the window to go, everybody can get bought, everybody can get sold!”
