Luton have confirmed their first signing of the January transfer window, bringing in former Scottish youth international Kal Naismith after he left Wigan earlier this month.

The versatile 28-year-old spent the last two-and-a-half years at the DW Stadium, playing 37 games and scoring three goals as the Latics were relegated out of the Championship last season, due to their 12 point deduction for entering administration.

Naismith also made 14 appearances this term, featuring 84 times in total for Wigan following his move from Portsmouth, where he had won the League Two title.

The left-sided player, who has also played for Reading, Cowdenbeath, Partick Thistle, Accrington Stanley and Hartlepool, is relishing an opportunity to be back in the second tier, telling the Luton official website: "It feels great to get it done.

"I’m excited to meet the lads and I’m delighted I’m here, looking forward to getting started.

“I loved my time at Wigan and I’m very grateful for the opportunity that the club gave me to go and play Championship football.

"There were some great lads and staff members, it was excellent for me and my career, but I’m looking forward to the next step now.

“It has been a tough few months and I’m just looking forward to getting back into that environment with the lads and back in the Championship, which is a great league.

“It’s a challenging league and obviously Luton are doing well.

"I’m looking forward to joining the lads and hopefully keep doing as well as they are.”
