Hatters must be wary of party-pooping Romans

PROUD Hatter boss Richard Money is adamant that Bath City cannot allowed to be party-poopers on Town’s 125th birthday, writes Mark Wood.

Luton celebrate that momentous milestone tomorrow, and Money has warned that the Hatters must be on their guard to make sure the Romans don’t spoil their big day.

He admitted that Bath’s players may not currently be aware of the significance of tomorrow yet, but they will be in little doubt when they reach Kenilworth Road.

He said: “If you were in their dressing room you would want to spoil the occasion.

“We’ve got to make sure we are very professional about the way we go about things and that that doesn’t happen.”

And as a former player and now manager of the club Money is relishing the occasion.

He said: “The first thing is as the manager I’m proud and I feel very privileged to be the manager on this particular day.

“And I’ve said the same to the players that they should feel proud and privileged to represent the club on this particular day.

“We are aware that there will be a number of ex-players here and a big crowd and big expectations and hopefully we can put on a performance for them.”

Luton have been in great form recently and Money wants that to continue, saying: “We just want to continue in that vein, very offensive, on the front foot and try and put teams under pressure.

“We’ve done that in recent weeks and hopefully we will do it again tomorrow.”

However, the Hatters will be without back-up keeper Kevin Pilkington who has joined Conference rivals Mansfield Town on a three-month loan - although the Hatters do have a 24-hour call back option.

As a result youngster Lewis Kidd will be on the bench for Luton.

Money continued: “We’ve got no qualms about having him in the squad tomorrow.”

The likes of Pavel Besta, Ed Asafu-Adjaye and Godfrey Poku all came through a midweek reserve game unscathed for Luton and will be available for selection.

Key winger Andy Drury is also available, but there are doubts over several others.

Shane Blackett is believed to be one but Money was tight-lipped on who else, although was hopeful they would be fit in time.

He said: “As normally happens in football you gain one and lose one.

“We’ve got one or two with knocks picked up in training this week and against St Albans and hopefully they will be available this weekend.”

Money also warned his side not to underestimate Bath who currently sit fourth from bottom in the Blue Square Bet Premier table and lost 4-3 at home to Zamaretto Southern League Premier Division side Swindon Supermarine in their fourth qualifying round FA Cup replay on Tuesday night.

He added: “We all know anything can happen in the cup.

“Alan Neilson and I have seen them twice recently and we’ve been very impressed.

“We’ve made the players well aware about what they’re about.

“They are much better than their position suggests.”
