Hatters Q&A with Stuart Fleetwood

Each month, the Luton News-run fanzine Half Time Orance grabs hold of a player and asks him questions set by Hatters supporters.

This month, Stuart Fleetwood goes under the spotlight and to submit your questions for next month’s victim, follow @LutonNews_LTFC on Twitter.

Q. Who’s your favourite team (other than Luton)?

West Ham are the team I support, have done from an early age. Been to see them a few times including the FA Cup final against Liverpool. Also fortunate enough to be on the bench against them at Upton Park for Cardiff City as a 19-year-old.

Q. What were your first impressions when you moved to Luton?

My first impression of Luton was that I was surprised by the enthusiasm of everyone at the club. For a club to have gone so drastically into non league football, the fans, staff and players were all so upbeat and positive and hungry for success. It really rubbed off on me quickly!

Q. Who was your favourite player growing up and why?

Paolo Di Canio. I loved the passion he showed and for me he is one of the best foreign imports this country has witnessed. He also had a bit of a temper, which I can relate to!

Q. What’s been most memorable dressing room prank at Luton?

There have been a few good pranks since I’ve been at Luton, probably the funniest was when a player put a doughnut in James Dances’ jeans and he sat on it whilst he was putting his socks on! He wasn’t too impressed but he took it like a good sport! He’s definitely plotting his revenge though.

Q. Whats your favourite joke?

I’ll keep it clean. What do cats eat for breakfast? Mice Krispies!

Q. If you weren’t a footballer what would you have done?

I definitely would have had a go at becoming a rugby player. I was pretty good in school and had to choose which sport to pursue as a 15-year-old. Both my brothers played professionally so I’d have been in good company.

Q. Have you any other celebrations planned?

I haven’t got any planned just yet. I’m still pretty happy with the Elbow Slap but I’m always on the look out for more stupid or crazy things to do!

Q. How does BSP compare to League Two?

There isn’t a great deal of difference between the two leagues. Obviously the top 5-6 teams in League 2 usually have the bigger budgets and larger squads but it doesn’t automatically bring success. With the squad we have at Luton, the step up would not be a big ask at all.

Q. If you could have one superpower what would it be?

I think the superpower that every striker would have is the power to never miss the target when shooting! If I had that, Luton would be in the Premiership in no time!

Q. What are your musical influences?

I’m in to all sorts of music. I like my R’n’B and Hip Hop before games but I like a lot of indy and alternative stuff too. Love Ed Sheeran, The Script and people like the Stereophonics also.

Q. What tunes do you listen too before a game

I think Crowy is in charge of the ipod before games now. He puts on some Garage, Funky House, Hip Hop to get the lads going. I just go with the flow. Although at Cambridge, Alan Neilson put on his ipod and the lads were jammin’ to some Adele before the kick off!

Q. Is it tough joining a new club when you have to uproot your family on deadline day?

It is difficult to make a decision with such little time. You have to put your families needs before your own and hope that you make the right choice. I feel 100% that I have made the right choice moving to Luton and I’m glad they came calling to get me!

Q. If Luton played your boyhood club Cardiff would you celebrate if scored?

I would celebrate against any former club. I love scoring goals! I celebrate in training, it’s not disrespectful to opposition fans to celebrate but I wouldn’t be able to contain myself!
