Luton were defeated 3-0 by a Raheem Sterling-inspired Chelsea on Friday night, as they suffered a second successive Premier League defeat.
Nicolas Jackson was also on target for the Blues, and to check out how the Hatters rated on the evening, see below.
5. Amari’i Bell: 6
Another tough introduction to life in the top flight as he was powerless to prevent Sterling swerving round him to put the Blues in front. Like the rest of his team-mates, settled down and began to exude some of his usual confidence to take the ball on and look to attack during the latter stages of the first period. Can’t afford to give any space to wingers at this level though, with Sterling allowed room to set up Chelsea’s victory-sealing third. Photo: Liam Smith
6. Ryan Giles: 6
Couldn’t show Sterling to the by-line for the first as the winger twinkle-toed his way past him and into the box to slot home a fine opener. Had the odd chance to deliver from set-pieces, but Luton couldn’t make them count, and overhit a cross when well placed. Closest to scoring for Town though, his deflected drive forcing Sanchez into a good stop. Didn’t track Gusto as Chelsea were able to double their lead to sink Luton's chances. Photo: Liam Smith
7. Marvelous Nakamba: 6
Is finding life in the top flight far harder than the Championship as the Hatters weren’t allowed to dominate midfield against two £100m acquisitions for Chelsea. Wasn’t able to get back in time to prevent Sterling opening the scoring, as a rash challenge on Gallagher also saw him carded. Had more of an impact in the second period, breaking up play impressively when Luton had their spell of pressure. Photo: Liam Smith
8. Tahith Chong: 6.5
Looked to be Town’s creative spark when they managed to advance into the Chelsea half during the opening 45 minutes. Took advantage of a slip from Caicedo as he fired wide from a decent opening, as his run on the right and pass set up Luton's best chance of the night after the break. Tackle count was decent as well as he put the work in. Photo: Liam Smith
