Luton left St James’ Park with a remarkable point following a 4-4 draw against Newcastle United on Saturday.
Gabe Osho and Ross Barkley had scored in a first half that ended 2-2, as Town dared to dream after the break when Carlton Morris and Elijah Adebayo found the net to make it 4-2. However, the Magpies hit back to ensure it finished all square in a truly wonderful contest and to find out how the Hatters rated on the afternoon, see below.

Again, despite Luton being breached four times, he didn't do an awful lot wrong on the day, in fact, plenty right as it happens. So comfortable on the ball as Town were able to enjoy plenty of possession and grow into the contest after falling behind early. Didn't panic once the Magpies had their second either as he looked to get forward and link with Doughty, as a simple pass over the top into space allowed his team-mate to gallop away when Luton notched their fourth. 6. Alfie Doughty: 7.5
With most of Luton’s attacking intent coming down the right flank on this occasion, he still managed to play a big role in Town’s goals, although strangely, despite the Hatters finding the net four times, not one came from his set-pieces. Still, supported Barkley well to fire in a low shot that Dubravka could only parry, allowing Barkley to tuck home the rebound and make it 2-2. Then led the charge that saw Luton go 4-2 up, picking out the England international who set up Adebayo. With his legs starting to tire and Town digging on, went off late on. Photo: Liam Smith
7. Sambi Lokonga: 8.5
Just couldn't quite stretch enough to reach Trippier's cross as Longstaff opened the scoring, but demonstrated the real physicality he has added to Luton's midfield as he wasn’t afraid to get stuck into his Newcastle counterparts, although it did lead to an early booking from referee Bramall. Unbowed, he carried on imposing himself afterwards, to finish at the top of the tackle count, also making a host of interceptions, clearances and blocks. Partnership with Barkley will be vital to the Hatters attempts at staying up this term. Photo: Liam Smith
8. Ross Barkley: 9.5
Relished the big stage as had Luton ticking from very early on. Took the ball no matter where he was on the pitch and often kept it away from three opponents to find his man. His free kick led to Town’s leveller and then drove away to tuck home after Doughty’s shot was saved. Can’t claim to have been involved in the penalty, but massive part of the fourth, with a perfectly weighted pass for Adebayo. Only time he lost it really, Barnes made it 4-4, his appeals for a foul falling on deaf ears. Almost had another assist at the death, Ogbene's volley saved as if he doesn’t earn an England recall something is wrong. Photo: Liam Smith
