Hatters rated v Northampton Town

Mark Tyler: 5.5 - Beaten three times in quick succession yet again as Luton’s defending left a lot to be desired. May have gone to ground too early for the second goal, but made a brilliant stop with the scores at 3-3. Rooted to the spot by Holmes’ long ranger.

Sean Long: 5 - Young full back is experiencing the tough times of league football right now as Luton were beaten for the fourth time in a row.

Scott Griffiths: 5 - Returned to side after missing Peterborough but part of the back-line that was cut continually cut to shreds, especially in the first half, by the free-flowing visitors.

Magnus Okuonghae: 4.5 - Defender looked nervy all afternoon with some questionable decision-making. Stood off D’Ath for the second goal as he failed to ever get to grips with the Cobblers’ front-line.

Luke Wilkinson: 5 - Once again saw his side concede four at home and guilty of giving away far too many free kicks in dangerous positions with what were needless fouls.

Olly Lee: 5 - Not too bad going forward, but it’s the other way where issues still remains too often the visitors had time and space in the centre of midfield. Holmes being allowed a free run for the winner the stand out example.

Jonathan Smith: 5 - Captain for the day but Luton’s midfield was again found wanting as Northampton were able to easily break away with very little in their way.

Alex Lawless: 6.5 - Another different position for Lawless this week as he started wide left. Helped Hatters back into the game with an assist for Benson and then lovely vision sent Mackail-Smith away to win the penalty.

Danny Green 5.5: Set-pieces were decent enough and it was a confident penalty to level. Well shackled though as couldn’t ever really exert the sort of influence he has done in recent matches.

Paul Benson (STAR MAN): 6.5 - Striker produced an excellent overhead kick as Luton got off to the perfect start. Predatory finish for the second too on a good personal comeback after red at Stevenage, but result took the shine off that.

Craig Mackail-Smith: 5.5 - Got through plenty of running, although once more, it was more than often in areas that didn’t hurt Northampton. Won what was a fortunate penalty too but never ever really look like scoring himself.

Jack Marriott (SUB): 5.5 - Thrown on as Luton put three strikers up top late on, but criminally the ball never made it to any of them.

Ryan Hall (SUB): 5.5 - Luton’s heads had well and truly dropped by the time he was introduced.
