Hatters reportedly battling Terriers to sign young Fleetwood defender
Haughey rumoured to be interesting Luton
Luton Town are reportedly battling it out with fellow League One side Huddersfield Town for the signature of young Fleetwood Town defender Conor Haughey.
The 19-year-old has come up through the ranks with the Cod Army, having joined from Glentoran on a two-year scholarship, as after featuring in the FA Youth Cup, was given a senior debut in the Vertu Trophy group stage contest against Leeds United in October. He was then handed his first league outing in the 1-0 defeat to Grimsby on New Year’s Day, going on to become a mainstay of the side during the second half of the campaign, finishing with 24 appearances in total, 18 of those League Two starts, as he was named Fleetwood’s Young Player of the Season.
Capped at both U17 and U19 level for Northern Ireland, The Lower Tiers is now reporting that the Hatters and the Terriers have submitted bids for Haughey, who hasn’t played yet this term due to a knee injury, ahead of the summer transfer window shutting on Tuesday evening. Fleetwood aren’t under any pressure to sell, with the defender having signed a new three and a half year contract in January, which runs until the summer of 2029, with an option for an extra season too.

Speaking to Town’s official website after putting pen to paper earlier this year, Haughey had said: “I’m delighted to be offered the contract and I didn’t think twice about signing. The support I’ve had since joining the club and stepping into the first team has been immense, and I hope I can repay the faith everyone has shown in me with some strong performances.”
