Hatters sign defender Beckwith

COMMANDING centre-half Dean Beckwith has signed for the Hatters, writes Mark Wood.

The 27-year-old 6ft 3ins defender completed his move from League Two Northampton yesterday, signing a two-year deal.

Beckwith is the second new face at Kenilworth Road following the capture of former Rushden & Diamonds striker Aaron O’Connor last week.

Managing director Gary Sweet was pleased Town had been able to see off competition for the player from several Football League clubs believed to include Wycombe Wanderers, AFC Wimbledon, Oxford United and Bournemouth.

He said: “Quite a few League clubs wanted him.”
