Hatters sign young striker Angol

Luton Town have signed teenage Lee Angol on a one-year contract and loaned him to Conference South side Boreham Wood for the forthcoming season.

The 19-year-old was most recently on the books at Wycombe Wanderers, where he made four first team appearances, including playing against Watford in the Capital One Cup.

A product of the Tottenham Hotspur academy, the 6ft 2in Angol has previously enjoyed time out on-loan at Hendon and Boreham Wood.

He netted nine goals in 10 games for the Greens in 2012/13 and notched six goals in 17 matches for Wood last term.

The pacey forward will form part of the development squad and be eligible to feature in the Town’s matches in the Final Third Development League when not on duty for Wood.

Manager John Still told the club’s official website: “Lee is a youngster who we are giving a chance to because we feel he has some potential.

“We like him and his attitude, he’s definitely one for the future.

“He can play down the middle or out wide, he’s reasonably quick and has a great attitude.

“Loaning him to Boreham Wood – where he has done well before – will give him the opportunity to get more experience under his belt.

“At the same time, he’ll be training with us full-time and playing for the development squad, so we’ll be able to keep a close eye on his progress.”

Meanwhile, Wood boss Ian Allinson, a former Luton player, said: “I’m very grateful to our chairman for his perseverance in this matter and to John Still and to Terry Harris at Luton for agreeing to the deal.

“Lee was always my number one summer target and both John and Terry recognise, that young players like Lee, need to be playing regular competitive football to develop.

“I remember when I was a pro, it was not always great to be in a pro set up all week, train full time and then have no game on a Saturday afternoon.

“Our arrangement with Luton, will give the player regular football on a Saturday.

“As such it will be good for all parties and I fully expect Lee to improve enormously, be a top player at our level and to be amongst the top goal scorers in our division.”
