Hatters signing hopeful for former club Rushden

FORMER Rushden & Diamonds skipper Aaron O’Connor remains hopeful the club’s supporters still have a team to follow next season, writes Mike Simmonds.

Diamonds have been expelled from the Blue Square Bet Premier due to financial reasons and are in serious danger of going out of business completely as they are yet to be assigned a league to play in for the 2011-12 campaign. After making over 50 appearances for the club in two years, O’Connor admitted it was hard to see them in such a state.

He said: “It’s a great club. I’ve always had a good relationship with the fans and when I heard they were out of the league, I didn’t want to hear that.

“Hopefully the next couple of years they can reform and either someone takes the club over or they get a little bit of the right leadership and they’ll be all right, that’s what I hope.

“The fans have always been good to me. They deserve to at least be in the Conference.”
