Hatters snap up defender Williams

Town have signed defender Curtley Williams from Ryman Premier League side Lowestoft Town.

The 24-year-old played 36 times as Lowestoft won promotion via the play-offs this season and has penned a two year deal at Kenilworth Road.

Williams, who is primarily a right-back Williams but can play at centre-half, came through the youth ranks at Ipswich Town before joining the Glenn Hoddle Academy in Spain.

Having impressed whilst at the former England manager’s set-up, he played in South Africa before returning to sign for Lowestoft in 2012/13.

On Williams’ arrival, John Still told the club’s official website: “We’ve watched Curtley extensively this season and we’ve all been very impressed.

“He is an ambitious man who comes under the ‘young and hungry’ bracket, and one we see having a bright future ahead of him.

“He likes to get forward, he has great energy and pace, and he is an ideal age. He’s not a kid, not a teenager that perhaps lacks that little bit of nous, but he’s got experience and, mostly importantly, he’s a player who we see can improve and develop further.”
