Luton striker Cameron Jerome has agreed to switch his international allegiances and play for Grenada.

The 36-year-old, who was born in Huddersfield to Grenadian parents, made 10 appearances for the England U21s earlier in his career when a youngster at Cardiff City.

However, he will now be eligible for the country nicknamed the Spice Boys, currently ranked 173rd in the FIFA rankings, after beating St Vincent/Grenadines 5-1 in their most recent friendly.

A statement on the Grenada Twitter official site said: “The GFA is pleased to announce that English-born Grenadian, Cameron Jerome has agreed to represent Grenada in international football.

"GFA President Marlon Glean met with the former Norwich City & Birmingham City forward in London in September.”

Jerome himself told the Grenada Football Association: “I met with the President of the Grenada FA, Marlon Glean, in September, and I was satisfied with the things that I heard about his vision and plans for football in Grenada.

"I have close ties to Grenada, and I’d be delighted to help out in any way possible.

"I’m still fit, playing and enjoying my football, and once I’m able to make a valuable contribution, then, of course, I’m willing to be a part of it.

GFA President Glean added: “We had the discussion with Cameron about him finally coming on board in an official capacity.

"We believe he will be a great asset to our country with all his years of experience playing at the top level of English football.

"He’s been involved at a high level of the game on a consistent basis for over seventeen years, and surely we can find a place for him in the national team as we embark on a journey to achieve greater things in the region and beyond.”

Jerome’s debut could come against current Town team-mate Ethan Horvath as Grenada host the USA in the Concacaf Nations League next March.

The Spice Boys lost 5-0 to their opponents back in June, as they sit bottom of Group D with one point from three matches, that in a 2-2 draw against El Salvador.
