Hatters wary of Hatch threat

TARGET man Liam Hatch will be a real handful when the Hatters visit Darlington tomorrow night according to Luton boss Richard Money.

The on-loan Peterborough United striker spent the whole of last term on loan at Luton, but his stay was blighted by an ankle injury which required surgery more than once.

However, his abilities when available were there for all to see and Money knows the Hatters must be wary of his threat when they visit the Northern Echo Arena.

He said: “He is a real handful. I like him as a guy and as a player and certainly he is going to give us problems tomorrow.”

And while he is unlikely to make too many changes from the side that beat table-topping AFC Wimbledon on Friday night, right-back Dan Gleeson and central midfielders Keith Keane and Pavel Besta will hopefully all be available.

Money continued: “I don’t think there will be too many changes tomorrow.

“Both were close for Friday and are even closer for tomorrow.

“Glees has trained for full today and Keano had some more treatment.

“Glees is fit and available, Keane I’m not too sure. Pav is back and available too.

“It will give us something to think about.

“But I think everyone was pretty pleased with the 11 on the pitch on Friday night.”

There are several walking wounded around Kenilworth Road, but everyone should be available for the game.

Money said: “I think people just pick up bumps and bruises and the tendency is to use ice quite liberally.”

And Money is expecting a different type of test against the Quakers than the one they face on Friday night.

He said: “I think it will be a different type of test tomorrow. It will be a different type of challenge.

“They are big strong, aggressive, direct, 4-3-3 - it will be a different type of test to Friday night.

“I always felt Wimbledon would come and try and get the ball on the floor.

“Tomorrow night will be a case of winning the first header and being in the right holes for the second ball and set plays.

“If we don’t go up there and match them physically there is going to be nothing there for us.

“So you need all types of qualities to get out of this league.”

Taiwo Atieno and Matthew Barnes-Homer again look likely to lead the attack, but Money admitted they will have to be careful not to overuse the ever-present Barnes-Homer.

He said: “With Barnes-Homer it’s a case of managing him before we give him a breather.”

Money is also hoping to reward the fans who make the trip, although it may be difficult for them to make themselves heard as they will be sat a long way from the pitch.

He said: “Both stadiums are a long way away from the pitch. It will be difficult for them to make themselves heard, but I’m sure they will.

“We have to make sure we give the supporters everything they deserve for those who trave tomorrow.”
