The 23-year-old was part of the Luton team who made history by becoming the first non-league side to knock out a Premier League club out of the competition when they won 1-0 at Norwich City two seasons ago.

With Hatters making progress in the first round on Saturday after beating Newport County 4-2, he said: “It was an incredible day and an amazing day for me personally as well as the boys.

“So we’d love to do that. Everyone knows we want to do well in the league as well, but the gaffer’s mentioned quite a bit he wants to do well in the cup, so we’ll have to work hard in every game that comes.”

With the draw this evening, live on BBC Two, Howells didn’t have his eye on any particular side in the next stage, preferring to look at Saturday instead.

He added: “I think we just take each game as it comes, we’re looking to Tranmere now, that’s the most important game for us.

“We’ll see who we get in the hat, and go into that game like we do every game and try and win it.”
