Illness forces Still to miss second half of Daggers win

Hatters boss John Still was forced to miss the second half of his side’s 2-0 win at former club Dagenham & Redbridge on Sunday due to suffering a migraine.

The 65-year-old left the dugout shortly after the half time break and didn’t re-emerge until moments before the final whistle.

Speaking to the press afterwards in his place, first team coach Hakan Hayrettin said: “Just after half time, John got a bit of a migraine. He doesn’t suffer from migraines, or anything like that, so he felt a bit nauseas and a bit dizzy but he’s fine now.

“He’s back to his usual self but as a sufferer from migraines, I know how bad that can be. When you look at the light and the dark area sometimes it can blur your vision and think that’s what happened.

“He just came out before the end of the game and had probably sat down for about 40 minutes as once that migraine gets you it’s a hell of a thing to get rid of.

“We were told to concentrate on the game but more importantly as long as John’s okay that’s good news for us.”

Goalscorer Alex Lawless revealed that the players hadn’t been made aware of the situation regarding their manager during the second half.

He added: “To be honest with you I had no idea. When I came off and I didn’t see him, I thought he might just have gone off to sit in the stand for a better view.

“So it’s not great news to hear he’s not well, but he seemed fine in the dressing room after, so that’s good.”

Although Still didn’t take part in the usual full time huddle, he did head back to the changing rooms with his grandchildren and when walking past the press box later, joked: “I’m okay now, I’m off out dancing.”
