At a snowy Kenilworth Road and up against one of their main promotion rivals, Luton took the lead twice through James Collins only to be pegged back. George Moncur curled home a superb free kick with four minutes left to secure victory.
A topsy turvy second half saw Luton leading twice thanks to Cameron McGeehan and Jack Marriott, before Olly Lee netted a superb solo goal in the last minute to win it as Luton finally ended their barren run at Bootham Crescent.
A truly memorable day at Wembley as Luton conceded early, but then saw Chris Martin level. Tom Craddock put Town in front, as Grant McCann equalised before Claude Gnakpa scored in stoppage time as Hatters lifted the trophy.
The Royals had been unbeaten since the opening day and led through Kevin Doyle. Rowan Vine’s quickfire double and Dean Morgan’s strike saw Town 3-1 in front as although Doyle pulled one back late on, Luton held on.
