Iron chief Harding hails Luton win as one of the best

Braintree chairman Lee Harding labelled his side’s 3-2 win at Kenilworth Road on Tuesday night as one of the best in the club’s history.

The Iron have beaten Luton before, triumphing 3-1 at their Cressing Road stadium last season, but the midweek triumph ranked even higher for Harding.

He said: “It’s got to be up there with the best results ever for the club.

“In some of our recent games, we haven’t been getting the results we have deserved, but we did in this one and you’ve got to be pleased for the players and particularly manager Alan Devonshire.

“It takes some pressure off when you can go somewhere like that and get a result.

“There won’t be many sides now looking forward to playing a team that has just gone to Luton and got a result.

“Make no mistake, Luton are a good side.

“They get attendances that average 10 times ours and have a playing budget that is considerably higher than what Alan has to work with.

“We were heavily touted as underdogs by the bookmakers so to go there and win was fantastic.

“Having led 2-0 and with it poised at 2-1 at half-time, I spoke with one of my colleagues in the boadroom and we agreed that the following 45 minutes could be important for our season.

“So it was great to see the lads roll their sleeves up and there were a lot of eight out of 10 performances out there as we deserved it.”

Manager Devonshire added: “We’ve won 3-2 at Luton and it’s fantastic.

“We came here to enjoy it. No-one expected us to win, but we’ve been positive and attacked.

“You’ve seen our defending, we have to attack to win games. We had a lot of chances and I thought we fully deserved our win.”
