JJ hopeful Heed move opens door at Luton

Hatters midfielder JJ O’Donnell is hoping that playing his part in firing Gateshead to promotion via the play-offs will see him return to the fold at Kenilworth Road once more, writes Mike Simmonds.

The 22-year-old moved to the Tynesiders for an initial month last Thursday and hopes his performances catch the attention of Town boss John Still.

On the loan, he said: “I want to be playing my games of football at Luton, so it’s important to come to places like Gateshead where they’re going to be challenging and show the gaffer that I can play a major part in a winning team.

“If I’m here for the rest of the season and can get Gateshead promoted, it will put me in great stead to come back as I’d love to be playing my football at Luton.”

O’Donnell admitted that he had taken the harder choice in going to the Tynesiders, as he could have gone back to Hyde, where he had already spent a month, or stayed closer to Bedfordshire.
