Luton boss Nathan Jones knows that relegation back to League One could well dictate which out-of-contract members of his squad he is able to keep at Kenilworth Road next season.

A win over Blackburn Rovers at Kenilworth Road in the final game of the Championship season this evening should be enough to ensure survival, with decisions then to be made over players such as Luke Berry, Glen Rea, Danny Hylton, Kazenga LuaLua and Elliot Lee.

Jacob Butterfield and Callum McManaman will also become free agents, as Jones has a clear picture of who he wants to keep at the club, but knows staying up will make it far easier, saying: “Financially it (relegation) might impact on who we keep.

“We pretty much know who we’d like to keep next season, it’s just finances could dictate that.

“I’m not going to say stuff that puts more pressure on the players, I don’t think they need any more motivation.

“It’s not like ‘you’re not going to be able to put food on the table if we don’t win’, it’s a big game, but this is a motivated group.

“They’re hungry, they want to stay at this level and it’s a similar group that I had at League Two level.

“We said to them, ‘you will be Championship players,’ and they fought so hard, to get to the level.

“They’re not going to give that up easily.

“We want to stay at this level and we believe we’re good enough to be at this level.”
