Town boss Nathan Jones has hailed the leadership qualities and character that captain Sonny Bradley has shown after returning to the side following the tragic death of his father Ray recently.

The 29-year-old missed two games when heading back up north to spend time with his family following the news, before coming back for the 0-0 draw with Coventry City last Tuesday.

He kept his place for the 3-0 win over Preston North End at the weekend, helping to keep another clean sheet as Luton produced their best performance of the season.

On Bradley, who used his programme notes prior to the match to thank fans for their messages of support, Jones said of the decision to bring him back into the team: “I asked him a question, how is he? He said ‘I’m ready’ and then you have to trust people.

“I felt he’s earned a lot of trust from myself and the staff here, because of how he’s conducted himself since he’s come in.

"So when he says 'I’m ready' and being the captain he's showed that.

"To be honest with you, the Cardiff game (4-0 defeat), he probably shouldn’t have played as I think he was rocked a little bit with news and I think that’s the only average game he’s had for a while.

"So he’s in good form, we’re very pleased to have him, he’s shown a lot of character as well.

"Without speaking a little bit sort of flippantly and not knowing, I’m sure his family would want him to be doing what he’s doing.

"As I know my dad for example lives and breathes football and would want me to carry on a legacy and to do him proud.

"That’s exactly what Sonny’s doing and showing great leadership qualities in doing it."
