Town chief Nathan Jones is hopeful of signing at least two players ahead of next weekend’s Carabao Cup first round clash against Norwich City.

The Hatters boss has made just the one addition so far over the summer, Accrington midfielder Jordan Clark arriving on a free transfer.

With just seven days until the new campaign begins against the Canaries at Kenilworth Road, Jones admitted that it is now time to finalise his hunt for new recruits, saying: "Hopefully we'll have a little bit of news early in the week where we can get a couple over the line and then going into the first competitive game, we should be in a stronger position.

“It’s been ongoing with what we have here.

"One, we have a wage structure. Two, we have a criteria in terms of we don't want to take loans, we want our own.

"So to do that, to get them in and to be the right player and to be able to play in the Championship is a difficult task, but that's the work we do here and that's what we're looking to do.

“The board are working so hard, they're backing me with the decisions I'm making, so we'll have some news for you and have at least two in by next weekend, hopefully more.”

On what positions he is looking to bolster the squad in, Jones continued: “There's areas we're light in.

"If you look, we like two in every position, so all you've got to do is look at the side, if you don't think there's two in every position, that's the position we're looking in.”
